Approaching God One Thought At A Time

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

Modern Proverbs

Decades ago, reading Blaise Pascal's
Pensées or Musings, I became enamored with the modern proverb. From pithy to lengthy, the genre proved handy and cathartic. A perfect fit for the beginnings of spiritual research and reflection. Long before writing "Heaven and Hell lie in thinking well" I was convinced of it. From understanding ourselves and each other, to comprehending our Creator and answering life's ultimate questions regarding our place in creation, the acquiring and recording of wisdom has been and remains foundational.

When the foundations are being destroyed what can the righteous do?

- Psalms 11:3 NIV

Jotting down, "God will speak twice as often to a sinner who's writing it down than to a saint who aint" I took my advice to heart. Around 4,000 musing of my own have helped me capture and refine my thoughts as well as provide a vehicle to share them.

Explicitly and implicitly mentioned thousands of times in various ways the
Bible's jammed full of this sentiment:

  • "Sell everything and buy Wisdom! Forage for Understanding! Don't forget one word! Don't deviate an inch! Never walk away from Wisdom—she guards your life; love her—she keeps her eye on you. Above all and before all, do this: Get Wisdom! Write this at the top of your list: Get Understanding! Throw your arms around her—believe me, you won't regret it; never let her go—she'll make your life glorious." Proverbs 4
Of course, "Not all that glitters is gold." Iron pirate can fool the novice prospector but we learn by trying. In that spirit I offer the following nuggets of one kind or another, for the purpose of inspiring thought, collaboration and appropriate response.
